Getting Started
Install MS to Beats and read millisecond parameters as bar fractions.
MS to Beats is a small Max for Live utility that converts milliseconds or seconds to beats in real
time, using the BPM of the current Live set. It helps when a device shows release, attack, or delay
in ms or s and you want to know how that length relates to the bar grid.
Requirements
- Ableton Live Suite 10, 11, or 12 with Max 8 or higher
- macOS or Windows
Using the device
The device window shows how much of one bar the currently selected parameter value represents. At 120 BPM, 500 ms is exactly one quarter of a bar. At the same tempo, 15 ms is about 1/128 of a bar, which is useful when you are tuning very short times such as compressor release.
Click and drag any Live parameter that is measured in ms or s. MS to Beats updates the readout as you move the control so you can match a feel to the grid without doing the math by hand.
Time signature
MS to Beats only works in 4/4. Other time signatures are not supported.
