Composition Algorithms
Pitch, rhythm, and combined procedures for developing a melody.
A single motif is a start. Melodyspawner also has procedures that develop what is already in the Notes and Rhythm Pattern fields. Run them after you have something worth keeping, then Render again.
Pitch algorithms
The pitch algorithms menu holds procedures that modify or extend the melody currently in the Notes field. Typical moves include inversion, retrograde, ascending or descending sequence, and transposing the whole melody by one step within the selected scale.
Rhythm algorithms
The rhythm algorithms menu holds procedures that generate, modify, or extend the rhythm currently in the Rhythm Pattern field. That includes building a rhythmical pattern from scratch when the field is empty or you want a new grid under the same pitches.
Pitch and rhythm together
The combined algorithms menu runs procedures that generate, modify, or extend both the Rhythm Pattern and the Notes fields at once. Use this when you want the pitch and timing to transform as a pair instead of editing them separately.
A simple development loop
- Render a motif you like.
- Pick a pitch, rhythm, or combined algorithm and apply it.
- Listen, tweak scale or randomization if needed, and Render again.
- Repeat until the phrase has enough variation to work with.
