Rhythm Pattern
Rhythm text syntax, subdivision, chopping, velocity, and syncing from a clip.
The Rhythm Pattern field sets when notes fire, how long they last, and where the rests sit. It works with the Notes field: Notes chooses pitches, Rhythm Pattern chooses the grid they land on.
Rhythm text field
Accepted symbols:
xtriggers a note-is a rest_prolongs the preceding character by one unit of the selected Subdivide x[]further subdivides thexs inside the brackets. For example,[xx]with Subdivide x set to 8n creates two 16n notes, and[xxxx]creates four 32n notes
A few useful shapes:
xxxxrenders four notes of equal lengthx_xxxrenders four notes where the first is twice as long as the other threex-xxxrenders four notes with a rest between the first and the second
Subdivide x
Subdivide x controls how long each x, -, or _ becomes after rendering. 16n means each
x is a sixteenth note, 8n means an eighth, and so on.
Chopping pattern
Chopping Pattern chops each note by the selected rule:
- Split splits the note into equally long parts
- Chop works like Split, except all even parts are deleted
- Halve halves each note
Chop length sets how far that rule goes. Smaller values make shorter chops. With Halve and chop
length 1, each note is halved once. With chop length 2, each note is halved twice, and so on.
Velocity
The velocity menu controls a velocity pattern for the rendered notes.
Rhythm presets
The rhythm patterns menu holds ready-made rhythm patterns. Like the note presets, they are useful as starting points and as examples of the Rhythm Pattern syntax.
