Sync and Autorender

MIDI to text, text to MIDI, Autorender, Autosync, and invalid-pattern feedback.

Melodyspawner talks both ways with Live clips. You can render text into MIDI, then edit in the piano roll, then pull those edits back into the Notes and Rhythm Pattern fields.

Render

Render writes the current setup into the selected Live clip.

Sync

DISCLAIMER: Sync does not work as expected in Live 12.

Each text field has its own Sync button:

  • Notes Sync pulls pitches from the selected clip into the Notes field
  • Rhythm Sync pulls timing from the selected clip into the Rhythm Pattern field

If several notes play at once, both Sync actions take the lowest note. Rhythm Sync also quantizes and updates Subdivide x. See the Notes Pattern and Rhythm Pattern pages for the details.

Autorender and Autosync

The Autorender dial also covers Autosync:

  • With Autorender on, changing any parameter immediately renders into the selected clip
  • With Autosync on, any change in the selected clip is immediately reflected in the Notes and Rhythm Pattern fields

That makes a tight loop with the piano roll. Render or Autorender to write MIDI, edit in Live, then Sync or Autosync to bring the clip language back into Melodyspawner.

Invalid characters

If either text field contains an invalid character, a button next to the fields blinks red so you know the pattern will not render cleanly.
