Notes Pattern

The Notes text field, its syntax, presets, and syncing from a clip.

The core of Melodyspawner is text to MIDI. Under the hood it uses Scribbletune and loosely adopts that pattern language. Two text fields drive what gets rendered: Notes for pitch, and Rhythm Pattern for timing. This page covers Notes.

Notes text field

The Notes field accepts a note pattern to render. Notes are separated by spaces. Accepted symbols:

  • Note names such as C1, Db4, or F#2
  • Whole numbers as degrees of the selected scale. For example, 0 in C1 major is C1, 4 is G1, and -2 is A0
  • R picks a random note of the selected scale. Randomness is shaped by the scale and randomization controls

A pattern like R R R R asks Melodyspawner to invent a four-note melody in the current scale. Mixing fixed notes with R is useful when you want some pitches locked and others free.

Note presets

The note patterns menu holds pattern generation presets. Use them as starting points, or read them to learn how the Notes syntax tends to be written.
