Getting Started
How to install Melodyspawner and spawn your first melody.
Melodyspawner is a Max for Live MIDI device for generating and developing monophonic melodies. You can get a starting point, or write a melody outright, inside Ableton Live clips.
Get it on Gumroad.
Requirements
DISCLAIMER: Some features no longer work as expected in Live 12.
- Ableton Live Suite 10 or 11 with Max 8 or higher
- macOS or Windows
Spawn your first melody
- Select a clip in Live's session view or arrangement view.
- Edit Melodyspawner's setup until the melody looks right.
- Click Render.
The melody writes into the selected clip. Repeat until you like what you hear. Randomization and the Notes / Rhythm pattern language are what make the variety possible. Built-in note and rhythm presets are a fast way to learn that language.
Float
Float switches between a normal window and a floating window. The floating window stays on top, which helps when you keep a piano roll open next to Melodyspawner.
Presets
Save writes the current setup to a .json file. Load opens a saved preset. Init resets
to the initial preset.
There are also built-in note and rhythm presets in the device menus. Those are separate from Save / Load and exist mainly to show how the pattern language works.
